Job Title: Practice Innovation Manager
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the Practice Innovation Advisory function, focusing on strategic initiatives to improve client service, lawyer productivity, and firm profitability through innovative legal solutions.
- Provide leadership to a team of Practice Innovation Advisors and collaborate with practice groups across various offices.
- Identify opportunities, analyze workflows, and document legal processes to create strong business cases and design more effective work methods.
- Work closely with the Director of Practice Innovation and other department and practice group leadership to define a tailored portfolio of solutions for each practice group.
- Develop the practice innovation advisory function globally by introducing frameworks, methodologies, and best practices to drive adoption and maturity in firmwide practices.
- Utilize best practices in user research and design to understand attorney and client pain points and identify high-value opportunities for workflow improvements.
- Conduct regular consultations with practice groups to understand workflows, identify friction points, and assess the feasibility and impact of proposed innovations.
- Manage the innovation pipeline from inception to completion, setting objectives, scope, timeline, budget, metrics, and success criteria while managing stakeholders, risks, and issues.
- Oversee the adoption of new tools, working with proof of concepts and pilot groups to gather feedback and integrate suggestions for continuous improvement.
- Partner with KM Counsel and Practice Directors to promote new practice solutions within the firm and support adoption and change management.
- Identify champions among user groups to help raise awareness through sharing solution benefits and success stories.
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the firm.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in the legal sector and beyond.
- Collaborate with the Practice Engineering and Technology teams to contribute to testing and developing AI solutions for the firm.
- Assist in the creation and upkeep of the firm’s innovation strategy, roadmap, and framework.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- A JD or LLM is preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience working in a consulting or advisory capacity within legal is preferred.
- Law firm experience is a plus.
- Experience with KM systems, legal workflows, and technology is required.
- Experience with change management methodologies is required.
- Two or more years of experience as a practicing attorney is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, OneNote, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
- Working knowledge of iManage and Litera products is a plus.
- Experience with other legal technologies is a plus.
- Working AI knowledge is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, time management, and planning skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- The ability to engage effectively with individuals at all levels, demonstrating precision, professionalism, and accountability.
- Self-starting, proactive, and able to exercise independent judgment and utilize critical thinking.
Salary Information:
The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location from which the applicant will be performing the job. The New York salary range is $160,000 - $190,000 USD.
