IP Trademark Docketing Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
The IP Trademark Docketing Specialist at the law firm is responsible for supporting attorneys and clients with trademark prosecution activities. This includes accurately reviewing correspondence, entering case details and due dates into the firm's docketing database, and partnering with the IP Docketing Manager to manage and docket a large trademark portfolio using internal and external resources. The specialist must follow firm procedures and risk management guidelines to perform a variety of complex duties. Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing, reviewing, and processing all trademark correspondence, both domestic and foreign, including communications from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Docketing USPTO and foreign trademark mail in the docketing system.
- Modifying, adding, and maintaining docket records.
- De-docketing pertinent deadlines.
- Opening new matters.
- Creating, modifying, and generating docket and status reports.
- Processing incoming file transfers.
- Generating and monitoring the daily docket of deadlines to ensure compliance.
- Responding to various requests from legal staff and other departments.
- Ensuring accurate entry and date calculation for case information.
- Ensuring completion and verification of daily PTO submissions.
- Communicating with attorneys and staff regarding pending action items as needed, including appropriate follow-up.
- Handling special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires 2-4 years of trademark docketing experience, preferably with CPI. A working knowledge of trademark docketing procedures, including USPTO and foreign practices, is essential. The role demands advanced knowledge of trademark docketing processes, usually acquired through training, education, and several years of work experience in the IP field. Candidates must have the ability to adapt to current and future responsibilities and circumstances, work well in a team-oriented environment, and maintain professional conduct with a service-oriented attitude and acute attention to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary. A Paralegal Certificate and/or a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
Salary Information:
This position may be filled in Washington, Illinois, District of Columbia, New York, Colorado, or California. The base salary ranges for this position are as follows, which may not be applicable to other locations:
