Legal Assistant/Paralegal The candidate will join firm which primarily handles maritime personal injury matters. Should be someone who performs best outside of the big law environment and enjoys wearing many hats in a small, team-oriented office. This position requires that you pitch in with administrative tasks and that you are capable of taking on/learning advanced-level legal support work under the direction of an attorney. Will assist in responding to and drafting discovery. Order, track, and summarize medical records. Schedule medical examinations, depositions, client meetings. Legal and general research assignments. Provide backup administrative support to Attorneys and the Office Manager / Legal Secretary. Should have 2+ years of legal assistant or paralegal experience. Will handle State and Federal courts cases. Drafting pleadings and discovery. Legal and general research. Personal injury law. Client contact in person and over the phone. Records management. Case filing (pleading/discovery index, correspondence, client docs, case docs). Microsoft Word. Should preferably have Medical records summaries. Drafting settlement demands, motions, mediation briefs. Maritime Law. Mac computers (We are a Mac environment but willing to help with learning curve). Paralegal certification is preferred.
