Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform administrative duties such as scheduling calendar hearings and deadlines, organizing case files, and managing logistics.
- Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes to ensure organization and accessibility.
- Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices for efficient case management.
- Implement and improve administrative processes to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Collect, examine, and organize evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation.
- Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents, including pleadings and contracts.
- Research regulations, laws, and legal articles to assist in preparing reports, case files, and legal advice.
- Manage client billing by preparing, finalizing, and sending out bills while resolving billing issues in collaboration with the billing attorney.
- Communicate with clients and witnesses to schedule meetings, interviews, and depositions.
- Manage, organize, and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Education and Experience Information:
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- An associate degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience as an administrative assistant, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department, legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal.
- Experience in Social Security, Personal Injury, Workers Compensation, Premises Liability, or other injury-related practice areas is preferred.
- Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, handle a fast-paced environment, and manage workload with a positive attitude and minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and communication skills, proficiency in scheduling depositions, mediation, and hearings.
- Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, and procedures.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong writing and communication skills with attention to detail.
- Extensive computer and database expertise, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing skills of no less than 35 words per minute.
