Job Title: IP Patent Paralegal/Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
The IP Patent Paralegal/Specialist at the law firm is responsible for providing legal support on a wide range of patent-related tasks. The main duties include gathering preliminary technical information for patent assessments and monitoring deadlines for domestic and foreign patent activities. The role involves handling routine activities associated with the maintenance and protection of domestic and foreign patents and assisting with the docketing of . and foreign patent matters, including patents, license agreements, and related contested matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating domestic and international filings with the USPTO and foreign law offices or other entities.
- Maintaining a docket system for due dates related to actions such as responses, renewals, oppositions, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) requirements, and payment of patent annuities in foreign countries.
- Preparing and filing various documents with the USPTO or foreign counsel.
- Preparing and recording assignments.
- Drafting correspondence to clients.
- Preparing status summary reports for attorneys and clients.
- Reviewing and acting on correspondence from foreign associates.
- Obtaining legalizations and certifications.
- Researching and compiling information on national and international patent rights, including searches of USPTO records, industry databases, and general legal research.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for this role should ideally possess a Bachelor's degree and a Paralegal certification is preferred. A minimum of two years of patent experience is required. Applicants should have knowledge of and familiarity with . and foreign patent work, including prosecution, maintenance, and renewals. Strong computer literacy is essential, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and the ability to work with Innovation, PATTSY, Lexis/Nexis, and other research databases.
Candidates must exhibit problem-solving abilities, independence, and discretion in handling confidential information. They should be responsible for producing consistently complete and accurate work. Exceptional organizational skills, versatility, adaptability, and the ability to multi-task in a pressured environment are crucial. The role requires handling a high volume of work and completing projects with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail, follow-up skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, and a commitment to professionalism are essential. A willingness to learn and use new research materials and practice tools is also important.
Salary Information:
The law firm offers a very competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. The anticipated annual pay range for this non-exempt role is $55,000 to $75,000. The actual offered pay rate will be determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and internal equity considerations.
