Job Title: Billing Team Lead

Job Responsibilities:
The Billing Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the billing staff for an assigned region or team within the law firm. This role entails providing leadership and direction to the billing staff, coordinating workflow, and monitoring performance to ensure compliance with the firm's policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include:

- Assisting the Senior Billing Manager in overseeing the billing staff, which involves assigning work responsibilities, ensuring the quality and timeliness of work products, resolving problems, and assessing work performance.
- Providing mentoring, training, and ongoing feedback to staff, managing and balancing billing workloads, overseeing schedules and overtime, and providing input for annual performance evaluations.
- Ensuring compliance with firm and department policies and addressing or resolving identified issues, escalating them when appropriate.
- Communicating deadlines and ensuring compliance with the month-end close process and creating new prebills for the next month’s billing cycle.
- Handling day-to-day direct billing responsibilities (approximately 25% of the time) where needed due to complexity or to support firm strategic initiatives, and overseeing billing overflow to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintaining involvement and oversight of team members’ workloads to ensure timely and accurate bill issuance, and keeping documentation up to date.
- Developing billing staff by enabling them to establish strong working relationships with assigned billing attorneys, taking ownership of assigned billing, and becoming the primary point of contact for billing attorneys and legal secretaries.
- Supporting proper e-billing protocol, working alongside the E-Billing Specialist to ensure that all e-billed clients are billed timely and accurately, adhering to both firm and client standards.
- Serving as a point of contact for escalated billing attorney and administrative staff inquiries, ensuring all requests to billing staff are acted upon appropriately and promptly.
- Liaising with and supporting finance functions outside of billing as needed.
- Assisting with developing and maintaining department training and resource materials.
- Driving performance excellence with effective communication, performance management, and employee recognition, identifying opportunities for employee growth, and assisting with achieving all goals.
- Promoting a positive, energetic culture featuring teamwork, collaboration, and excellence.
- Serving as a positive role model, exemplifying firm and department standards in daily operations.
- Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Billing Manager.

Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred for this role.
- 4 to 6 years of related experience is required.
- Supervising experience is required.
- Knowledge of accounting concepts is required.
- Experience with Aderant Expert Billing and BillBlast e-billing software is preferred.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and billing rates is necessary.
- Strong experience in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, is required.
- Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills are required.
- High standards, excellent attention to detail, effective communication skills, an ownership mentality, and exceptional follow-through skills are essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to interact and build positive relationships with staff, attorneys, and clients.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities and work demands is necessary.

Salary Information:

Benefit eligibility is dependent on hours. Compensation is determined by the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience, education, and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The salary range for this position for individuals physically located in Denver is to per hour. The range for individuals physically located in Chicago, San Diego, or Washington . is to per hour.
