Job Title: Litigation Paralegal

Job Responsibilities:
The Litigation Paralegal will operate under the supervision of an attorney, assisting attorneys and other paralegals throughout various stages of the litigation process. The role requires the ability to work independently without direct supervision and involves a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

- Initial case review to assist attorneys in evaluating the case. This includes drafting case chronologies and "cast of characters," preparing answers and other pleadings, and overseeing the receipt and intake of client documents.
- Coordinating the written and documentary discovery process by drafting discovery requests and responses for attorney review, coordinating the production of documentary responses, and reviewing the sufficiency of written and documentary responses. The paralegal will attend document production and interact with clients to obtain pertinent documents.
- Coordinating and managing the deposition process, which involves scheduling lay and expert depositions, drafting deposition outlines, selecting potential exhibits for attorney review, selecting relevant material for expert review, attending depositions, and summarizing transcripts. The paralegal will also prepare and serve subpoenas and arrange for court reporters/video technicians.
- Coordinating the creation of a litigation support database, either in-house or with litigation support firms. This includes coordinating the receipt and transfer of documents for document imaging, preparing deposition summaries, conducting word searches, and providing links to written and imaged databases.
- Assisting in factual investigations by coordinating with investigators on witness searches, interviewing clients, employees, or third-party witnesses, conducting public records searches, and reviewing and summarizing employment and medical records for attorney review.
- Coordinating and assisting in trial preparation by compiling trial binders, trial exhibits, and demonstrative exhibits, arranging for equipment and use of offsite trial facilities, assisting with preparation of motions in limine, jury instructions, witness and exhibit lists, drafting direct and cross-examinations, assisting with jury selection, operating trial preservation software, and attending trial.
- Performing basic legal and medical research using available resources, online research tools, and the internet, and cite-checking pleadings.
- Maintaining client files in accordance with firm standards.
- Assisting in the post-trial and appeal process by polling jury members, drafting memoranda of costs, cite-checking Motions for JNOV and/or new trial and appellate briefs, and creating and coordinating the assembly of excerpts of record.
- Ensuring regular and predictable attendance, which is an essential function of the job.

Education and Certifications:
Candidates must possess a BA/BS degree or a certificate from an accredited paralegal program.

Experience Required:
The position requires a minimum of ten years of experience as a paralegal in a law firm or corporate law department. Candidates should have a solid understanding of litigation issues and processes. Experience in coordinating case clerks and other paralegals, as well as managing all phases of case management for class actions and document-intensive litigation using automated databases and document retrieval and imaging systems, is preferred. Familiarity with both state and Federal courts and court procedures is essential.
