Job Title: Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The role of Counsel at the company involves a range of legal responsibilities primarily focused on defending lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handling first-party insurance defense cases. The Counsel will be expected to:
- Conduct thorough legal research and prepare detailed legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Provide expert opinions on liability, damages, and case value upon requests from the Claims Department.
- Prepare and manage legal pleadings, motions, and discovery processes, including depositions and examinations before trial and under oath.
- Defend cases through trial or dispositive hearings as assigned, ensuring all matters are handled efficiently and professionally.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Juris Doctor degree with mandatory admission to the Texas Bar. Candidates must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in Texas, meeting all licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE). The role requires 7-9+ years of experience in related field litigation, specifically in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
Preferred qualifications include having civil litigation experience and insurance defense-related litigation experience. Candidates must possess strong abilities in following complex instructions, resolving conflicts, setting priorities, and multitasking. They should also be capable of effective communication in person, via telephone, and through written correspondence/email.
Salary Information:
The annual salary for the Counsel position ranges from $118, to $185,. The final salary offer will be determined based on various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate’s work experience, education, training, work location, and other market and business considerations.
Additional Information:
The position is remote, but candidates must reside within a commutable distance from either Austin or San Antonio. The company will not sponsor employment authorization for this position.
