Associate Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Provide opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath.
- Defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and other first-party insurance defense, including defending by trial or dispositive hearing all matters assigned.
- Document files clearly and professionally to ensure understanding by customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees.
- Follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, or facilitate conflict resolution.
- Organize, prioritize, and multi-task effectively.
- Learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor degree is required.
- Admission to the Texas Bar is required.
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and meet licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.
- 2-6+ years of litigation experience in insurance, defense, and/or personal injury is required.
- Civil litigation experience is preferred.
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience is preferred.
- Must be able to communicate professionally in person, via tele,.
- The final salary will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, work location, and market and business considerations.
