Job Title: Advocate for Injured Employees (Ombudsman IV)

Job Responsibilities:
The Advocate for Injured Employees, also known as an ombudsman, plays a critical role in assisting and educating the injured employees of Texas. The responsibilities for this role include:

- Assisting and preparing injured employees for mediations and formal hearings, providing routine updates on the claim status.
- Educating injured employees about the workers’ compensation dispute process and relevant laws and rules.
- Assisting with referrals to social services in coordination with other state agencies.
- Providing help in filing claims and obtaining supporting documentation from medical professionals.
- Contacting insurance carriers and medical providers to identify and resolve disputes.
- Documenting customer interactions in a computer system.
- Answering general customer service inquiries.
- Performing other duties as assigned under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires candidates to have:

- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Three years of full-time experience in fields such as claims management, insurance, casework, law office (paralegal/legal assistant), healthcare, social work, or workers’ compensation.

Candidates with a current law license must surrender it upon hire. A year-for-year substitution is allowed between education and experience relevant to the position requirements.

Preferred qualifications include experience with medical terminology, rehabilitation, and disabilities/impairments, public speaking skills, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (oral and written).

The candidate should demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook, and possess skills in conflict resolution, public assistance, problem-solving, interpreting laws and regulations, data entry and retrieval, and using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. The ability to travel, multitask, meet deadlines, maintain effective working relationships, and communicate effectively with diverse groups is essential.

Salary Information:
The salary for this position is set at a monthly pay basis of $5,. This role is classified under State Job Code 3665, Salary Admin Plan B, Grade 23, and is exempt from overtime status.

Additional Information:
This full-time position adheres to a 40-hour work week schedule and requires up to 25% travel. The position is based in the San Angelo Field Office.
