Job Title: Paralegal - Real Estate (Hospitality and Leisure)
Job Responsibilities:
The Real Estate Paralegal position at the law firm involves supporting the Hospitality & Leisure practice group across multiple offices, including Chicago, New York, Phoenix, or Washington, DC. The role primarily involves working under the direction of assigned practice group lawyers and the Practice Group Leader. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing and coordinating due diligence tasks such as reviewing title commitments, surveys, zoning reports, and underlying documents.
- Assisting in the preparation and review of real estate conveyance and closing documents.
- Coordinating the closing of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financings, debt, and equity transactions. This involves creating and managing signature page packages, delivering all documents and deliverables, confirming the contents of closing checklists, handling recording requirements at closing, and creating and assembling closing books with detailed indices.
- Preparing, reviewing, and filing UCC financing statements.
- Ordering and evaluating UCC, lien, litigation, and similar searches.
- Handling entity formation and maintenance along with related filings.
- Reviewing and assembling officer's certificates, resolutions, organizational documents, and other closing deliverables, with a preference for familiarity with drafting such deliverables based on precedent and under attorney supervision.
- Working on special assignments that may require conducting routine fact or legal research, preparing reports, and handling associated filings.
- Interfacing with firm clients and other outside entities regarding assigned matters.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor's or Associate's Degree is required, or a Paralegal Certificate with equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of real estate experience is required, preferably in a law firm setting, an in-house legal department, or a title company.
- Experience with large and sophisticated transactions is preferred.
- Proficiency in title and survey matters is required.
- Hospitality experience is a plus but not required.
- The candidate must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
- Superior client service and communication skills are essential.
- The candidate must be able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
- The ability to interact and work productively with all levels of lawyers, paraprofessionals, and business services team members is necessary.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required.
- The ability to maintain discretion and privacy with confidential matters and documents is essential.
- The candidate should have the ability to recognize and comprehend facts and legal concepts.
- Strong computer technical skills and the demonstrated ability to learn new technologies are necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PDF creation tools, document management software, and Elite or other timekeeping software is required.
- The ability to work overtime as needed is required.
Salary Information:
Pursuant to state laws, the salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000, based on experience. The law firm offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401k, profit sharing, short-term/long-term disability, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, paid holidays, and discretionary bonuses.
