Summary:
- Position: Legal Assistant/ Screener - Disaster Recovery
- Organization: **Members Only**
- Location: Western North Carolina (WNC)
- Schedule: Full-time, hybrid remote work (3 days in office/field, 2 days remote)
- Salary range: $40,533 - $58,666 annually (additional $3k for applicable bilingual language skills)
- Experience: Associate/Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
- Responsibilities:
- Screen clients for eligibility
- Prepare and edit legal documents
- Conduct client interviews with a trauma-informed approach
- Provide administrative and legal assistance support to attorneys
- Scheduling and meeting preparation
- Accompany clients to court proceedings
- Travel within PLS service area and to meetings/conferences in other parts of NC
- Adhere to program priorities and case handling policies, procedures, and standards of practice
- Work with volunteers and PLS Development Team
- Assist with Hurricane Helene disaster response work as needed
- Qualifications:
- Passion for and commitment to PLS' mission, values, and vision
- Valid driver's license
- Associate/Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with teams and independently
- Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Additional skills in email marketing, graphic design, and other communications are a plus
