Job Responsibilities
The role of a Business Analyst at the law firm involves working collaboratively with internal teams consisting of business and IT professionals. The primary responsibilities include:
- Documenting requirements, defining project scope and objectives, and formulating solutions that align with overall business strategies.
- Eliciting and documenting business processes and requirements through various methods such as interviews, document analysis, team meetings, requirement workshops, use cases, and task and workflow analysis.
- Assisting with the definition, implementation, and enforcement of company-wide methodologies and practices.
- Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources, reconciling conflicts, distilling high-level information into detailed insights, and transforming user requests into solutions that address underlying business needs.
- Proactively communicating and collaborating with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver necessary methodology and project artifacts, including functional requirements, use cases, proposed user interface designs, and test scenarios.
- Understanding and applying key process re-engineering/process improvement principles to enhance the value of technology-driven change.
- Driving and/or participating in application testing activities.
- Working independently with staff to define, evaluate, refine, and develop concepts into meaningful, executable projects/solutions.
- Pursuing primary projects under the direction of the Senior Business Analyst and CTO.
- Serving as a liaison between attorneys, executives, staff, and technical team members.
- Eliciting and anticipating the actual needs of stakeholders, facilitating communication among individuals and organizational units, and aligning the needs of business units with the capabilities delivered by information technology.
Education and Experience Information
Candidates for the Business Analyst position are expected to meet the following educational and experience requirements:
- A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in an operations or analyst role with a financial services firm, law firm, consulting firm, or relevant related work experience.
- A BS or BA degree or equivalent work experience.
- Familiarity with reporting and relational database concepts, specifically SQL.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of attorneys, executives, managers, staff, and subject matter experts.
- An enthusiastic, positive, and entrepreneurial approach to complex technical challenges.
- Ability to work in a self-directed capacity on assigned projects and strategic research and development initiatives.
- Willingness to mentor team members and to be mentored by others.
- A desire to learn proprietary systems and administrative processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
- A strong work ethic and dedication to owning and resolving problems.
- Eligibility to work from any law firm office or remotely.
- Experience in using JIRA is preferred.
