Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
The Payroll Specialist at the law firm is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across the organization. This role involves utilizing payroll and timekeeping systems to execute end-to-end payroll processing, which includes tasks such as reconciliations, adjustments, tax filings, and compliance. The specialist supports and maintains all payroll processes and data within these systems and is tasked with documenting and updating procedures. They provide user support for any payroll and timekeeping issues and are responsible for researching and resolving payroll-related questions or issues promptly. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist assists with compliance regarding firm policy, regulations, and payroll-related legislation, and contributes to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reconciliations and filings. The role also entails responding to ad hoc payroll requests, which may include research, surveys, and special projects. Collaboration with the Payroll Manager and Controller to identify process improvements and efficiency opportunities is a key aspect of the position.
Education and Experience:
Candidates for the Payroll Specialist position are required to have an Associate’s Degree, with a Bachelor’s Degree being preferred. A minimum of two years of payroll experience is necessary, and prior experience with UKG payroll software is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
The Payroll Specialist must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with attorneys and staff. Effective collaboration across teams and departments is essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal formats. The role requires maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines in a time-sensitive environment. Sound judgment and critical thinking are necessary for resolving complex issues, and the ability to collect and synthesize information using advanced communication techniques is important. The specialist must maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive payroll information with care, and they should be prepared to work overtime as needed to meet payroll deadlines.
