Job Responsibilities:
The CPA position at the law firm involves a range of responsibilities within the Paralegal Team, primarily supporting the Financial Services and Capital Markets business unit. The key responsibilities include:
- Preparing various tax returns, such as Estate Tax Returns and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns.
- Maintaining financial records of trusts, performing trust accounting, and auditing accounts.
- Maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling broker statements, and preparing payables and bank deposits.
- Obtaining and reconciling 1099 and K-1 statements.
- Administering irrevocable trusts post-death and managing probate administration, including drafting probate pleadings.
- Serving as an accounting expert, providing guidance and best practices to other team members.
- Maintaining close contact with clients and financial advisors.
- Meeting an annual billable hour requirement of 1600 hours.
- Developing technical proficiency in database use and management, internet/electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
- Organizing and managing files independently or delegating tasks to appropriate professionals and supervising them.
- Sustaining attention to detail and quality of work.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree and CPA certification and license. Candidates should have 10 or more years of experience in Trusts & Estates. Essential skills include excellent communication, analytical, and organizational abilities. Candidates should demonstrate success working in a fast-paced, changing environment, with strong prioritization and time-management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, familiarity with tax and trust accounting software, and experience with document database programs or software are required. Significant client case management experience and exceptional attention to detail are also necessary. The ability to interact effectively and professionally, providing exceptional service internally and externally, is crucial. Candidates must be highly organized, able to prioritize workflow, manage projects, and perform effectively with little or no supervision within established time limits and deadlines.
