Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Assistant is a full-time position within the litigation team at a law firm, requiring a candidate skilled in managing state and federal court litigation procedures. Key responsibilities include:
- Calendaring state and federal court deadlines to ensure all legal proceedings are scheduled appropriately.
- Preparing basic legal documents such as notices, filings, and correspondence to support ongoing cases.
- Proofreading various legal documents including letters, motions, discovery, and pleadings to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
- E-filing documents in both state and federal courts, adhering to specific court procedures and deadlines.
- Communicating effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and vendors such as court reporters, process servers, and e-discovery providers to facilitate the progress of cases.
- Maintaining professional and courteous communication with court personnel to ensure smooth legal proceedings.
- Scheduling and preparing for hearings, depositions, mediations, and meetings to support attorneys in their legal duties.
- Pulling and organizing cases from Westlaw, conducting internet research, and maintaining organized and accurate case files, both physical and electronic.
- Preserving confidentiality, sensitivity, and discretion when handling client matters to uphold the firm's ethical standards.
- Assisting with various administrative tasks to support the legal team and ensure the efficient operation of the practice.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Legal Assistant position should possess:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal assistant in Florida, demonstrating a strong foundation in state and federal court litigation.
- Familiarity with state and federal court rules to ensure compliance with legal standards.
- Proficiency with Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to perform daily tasks efficiently.
- Experience with court e-filing systems, showcasing the ability to manage electronic documentation.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, processes, and court rules/procedures to support legal operations effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to facilitate clear and professional interactions with various stakeholders.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required for this position.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Legal Assistant position is $65,000 or higher, depending on the candidate's experience. The law firm offers a competitive compensation package that includes:
