Job Title: Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst
Job Responsibilities:
The Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst at the law firm is tasked with several key responsibilities that support the firm's strategic objectives. The analyst will work closely with both local and virtual teams to harness internal and external resources for gathering, filtering, analyzing, organizing, packaging, and delivering business and competitive intelligence. This intelligence is crucial for the development of the firm, its practices, industries, and clients. The role involves:
- Conducting in-depth legal, corporate, financial, and general research using databases such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, S&P Capital IQ, Mergermarket, and Lex Machina.
- Analyzing external data concerning current and potential clients, industries, and practices.
- Researching geographical expansion and lateral hiring groups.
- Allocating time and resources across the competitive intelligence cycle, focusing primarily on secondary data collection and analysis.
- Participating in research projects to meet patron needs, supporting client pitches, and providing information needed for responding to RFPs.
- Identifying potential cross-selling and promotional opportunities for legal services to new and existing clients or markets.
- Monitoring legal industry trends, including economic, political, and regulatory developments, and assessing their relevance to the firm's initiatives.
- Using appropriate tools and technology to disseminate competitive intelligence deliverables through various channels like email, print reports, personal delivery, and presentations.
- Creating and distributing various competitive intelligence products, including analytical reports with executive summaries, client and company profiles, competitive benchmarking, and market and industry reports.
- Developing templates for regular use in providing client or competitor information.
- Upholding and promoting ethical standards within the competitive intelligence industry.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate for the Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst position should possess:
- A Master's degree in Library Science or an equivalent field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a research-focused role within a law firm or similar professional services environment. This experience should include researching and analyzing litigation, intellectual property, companies, industries, and markets.
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Advanced skills in using research tools such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, S&P Capital IQ, Mergermarket, and Lex Machina.
- Demonstrated project management skills, strong customer service capabilities, planning and organizational skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to be a self-starter, adapt to change, balance competing demands, and interact with all levels of management and departments.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst position varies by location and is determined during the interview process. The salary ranges are as follows:
- Chicago, IL: $80, - $128,
- Los Angeles, CA and Seattle, WA: $87, - $140,
- New York, NY; San Francisco, CA, and Silicon Valley, CA: $91, - $146,
- Washington, DC: $84, - $134,
The base salary may be part of a total compensation package that includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
