Summary:
MTA, the largest public transportation agency in the United States, is looking for an Associate Counsel to handle labor and employment related litigation and non-litigation matters. This position will focus on matters involving New York City Transit, MaBSTOA, and MTA Bus. The successful candidate must have a Juris Doctor Degree and at least five years of experience in employment and labor law. The salary range for this position is $114,645 - $150,471 and the job is located in Brooklyn, NY.
Responsibilities:
- Handle labor and employment related litigation and non-litigation matters for MTA and its constituent agencies
- Provide day-to-day legal advice to management and various departments on employment practices, discrimination, labor and civil rights issues
- Review materials related to civil service examinations and coordinate with the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services
- Report to the head of the sub-unit responsible for Transit Authority and related matters
- Develop and maintain strong business connections in the employment and human resources field
- Work independently and under pressure to provide solutions that protect MTA's interests
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school and New York State Bar Admission
- Minimum of five years of experience in employment and labor law
- Excellent academic credentials
- Confidence in dealing with senior management and sophisticated counterparties
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Familiarity with MTA's policies and procedures preferred
Other Information:
- May be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York
- May need to work outside of normal work hours and travel to other MTA locations or external sites
