Job Title: Assistant United States Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) positions are available within the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas. As an AUSA, the responsibilities include prosecuting a variety of federal law violations, including organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crime. The role involves frequent courtroom appearances and requires the ability to handle a fast-paced, challenging, and varied caseload. AUSAs are integral in enforcing federal criminal and civil laws, defending the interests of the United States, and ensuring the impartial administration of justice. Responsibilities will increase and become more complex as training and experience progress.
Education and Experience:
Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree and be an active member of the bar in any . jurisdiction. A minimum of one year of . legal or relevant experience is required. United States citizenship is mandatory. Preferred qualifications include strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical ability, high-volume courtroom experience, outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism and public service. Experience in first-chair jury trials, grand jury practice, and investigative and prosecution techniques is also desirable.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Assistant United States Attorney position is administratively determined and based on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The salary range, including locality pay, is from $74,299 to $195,100.
Additional Information:
The position is located in Corpus Christi, Texas. All initial attorney positions are made on a 14-month temporary basis, pending favorable adjudication of a background investigation. The role may require occasional travel, approximately one to five nights per month. The Department of Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System. Relocation expenses are not authorized.
