Job Title: Legal Secretary
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform responsible legal secretarial and clerical work requiring a basic knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures.
- Type various legal documents including memoranda, depositions, pleadings, motions, rulings, pre-hearing reports, orders, petitions, briefs, and vouchers.
- Plan, schedule, initiate, and perform clerical processing necessary for the preparation of cases by staff attorneys.
- Proofread documents to ensure accuracy.
- Receive and screen the public by telephone and in person, and make appointments.
- Arrange transportation, accommodations, and conferences for attorneys.
- Type attorneys' case reports and legal manuscripts and revise them as necessary.
- Compose and type correspondence involving the application of policy as well as general or routine matters.
- Maintain detailed files for cases and correspondence.
Education and Experience Information:
- Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of 2 years of legal secretarial or business college and 1-year secretarial experience, or
- High school graduate (GED) with 3 years of secretarial experience or related experience, preferably in a legal services environment, or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to file and duplicate information, which includes bending, stretching, stooping, and lifting up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to operate automated office machines and equipment, with prior training or work experience on PC specializing in Word Perfect preferred.
- Attendance is an essential function of this position.
Salary Information:
- $48,384 - $61,608
