The Maryland Judiciary is currently seeking a Law Clerk for a continuous job opening in multiple locations throughout the state. This is a full-time, at-will position with a starting salary of $68,499 for first year Appellate Law Clerks and $63,119 for non-bar member Circuit Court and District Court Law Clerks, with an increase for bar members in any state to $70,120. The Law Clerk will provide legal support to the Judge and will be responsible for conducting legal research, reviewing motions and court files, drafting memoranda, and revising work product. They will also respond to research questions, deliver and triage the chamber's work, and attend court proceedings as requested by the Judge. The duties of the Law Clerk will vary based on the level of court, including District Court, Circuit Court, Appellate Court of Maryland, and Supreme Court of Maryland.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Prior legal writing experience is preferred. Upon application, candidates may be asked to provide writing samples, unofficial or official transcripts, and three references.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of laws, rules, and court procedures, as well as computer skills and excellent organizational and time management abilities. They must also possess the ability to perform legal research, read and understand law-related materials, and compose orders and memoranda. The ability to apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws is also required.
