Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
The primary role of a Legal Assistant in the State Public Defender’s Office is to support attorneys in providing comprehensive and zealous representation to clients in criminal, juvenile, or child protection cases. This involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring efficient legal support, including:
- Assisting with document review, preparation, and processing of discovery materials.
- Generating motions, memoranda, and pleadings within the case management system (CMS).
- Providing document management support during meetings, hearings, and trials.
- Entering and reviewing data in the CMS according to established guidelines.
- Assisting with the preparation of trial exhibits.
- Communicating effectively with clients and court personnel.
- Filing documents electronically and maintaining organized case files.
- Tracking personal time and tasks using the CMS.
- Supporting attorneys with administrative tasks and projects as needed.
- Maintaining confidentiality of client information and adhering to ethical standards.
- Organizing electronic case files in the CMS.
- Answering phones, sending emails, and greeting clients in the office.
- Demonstrating high proficiency with CMS, legal, and administrative software and platforms.
- Calendaring events, deadlines, and scheduling appointments.
- Performing other duties as assigned to support the office's legal functions.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates should have between one to five years of experience in the legal field related to the aforementioned job responsibilities, or equivalent experience in performing standard administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence or reports, filing, entering data, receiving payments, and maintaining logs. This experience should include the regular and proficient use of electronic management information systems, word processing, and other standard business software applications. Alternatively, candidates may possess an Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Additionally, candidates must exhibit exceptional administrative skills, including strong organization, time management, and attention to detail. Excellent grammar and proofreading skills are essential, as are clear and professional communication skills.
Salary Information:
This full-time position offers an annual salary ranging from $52,000 to $73,000, depending on experience (.). The pay rate is hourly, ranging from to .
