Job Title: Legal Assistant - Litigation
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various departments within a mid to large-size law firm to manage multiple responsibilities, such as case opening, conflicts checks, billing, training, and records management.
- Possess proficient knowledge of procedural rules and court filing systems; experience in filing pleadings in both Federal and State courts according to related court requirements.
- Exhibit effective oral and written communication skills for drafting and proofreading correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Track firm, attorney, and client expenses and utilize application software for processing reimbursements and payments.
- Participate in the client billing process, including assisting attorneys with entering narratives, tracking billable tasks, making edits, calendaring billing due dates, and delivering bills to clients in both electronic and paper formats.
- Schedule state court hearings based on court requirements and calculate deadlines to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate with attorneys to schedule client appointments.
- Possess knowledge in special events planning and coordination to organize attorney business development events.
- Manage electronic and paper case files efficiently.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail and other correspondence; answer, screen, direct, and place telephone calls and emails.
- Consistently deliver outstanding client service and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences, provide relief, equalize peak work periods, or balance workload.
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of three to five years of experience in a law firm, preferably as a litigation legal assistant with Federal and State court experience.
- Experience working with multiple attorneys is required.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to perform essential functions such as typing/using a keyboard and writing by hand.
- Regularly required to talk or hear, with specific vision abilities needed, including close and distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Attendance in the office is required.
