Job Responsibilities
This position offers a comprehensive range of secretarial support to attorneys. The key responsibilities include:
- Typing, editing, and formatting legal documents and correspondence under time-sensitive deadlines.
- Filing documents with various courts, both electronically and via messenger, and arranging for service of documents on opposing counsel.
- Handling telephone communications with clients and business contacts.
- Inputting attorney time and maintaining both paper and electronic files.
- Managing calendar and contacts, scheduling appointments, depositions, and meetings.
- Coordinating travel arrangements and preparing reimbursement forms.
- Preparing and submitting expense reports.
- Assisting fellow secretaries and additional attorneys as needed.
- Organizing and maintaining binders for trial, working papers, and business development purposes.
- Tracking litigation deadlines and ensuring they are correctly docketed.
- Opening and routing mail and emails, attaching files and documents.
- Maintaining and tracking CLE records for attorneys.
Education and Experience Information
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a litigation secretary or litigation legal assistant is required.
- Strong skills in word processing and computer use, with the ability to type 85 wpm with high accuracy.
- Proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat is required. Some knowledge of PowerPoint, time-keeping programs, and NetDocs is preferred.
- Experience in filing documents with State and Federal Courts, including electronic filing.
- Ability to read and understand court rules and ensure compliance with assigned judge’s Individual Rules and Practices.
- High School Diploma or GED is required, with a Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Salary Information
The annualized salary range for this position in New York City is $102,000 to $108,000 ( hourly). Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
