Job Title: Paralegal - Responsive Pleadings
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal - Responsive Pleadings position requires the candidate to assist attorneys with various tasks associated with asbestos litigation cases. The core responsibilities include:
- Assisting in fact investigation, legal research, document preparation, and production.
- Managing databases, docketing/case management, and overall client service.
- Focusing on responsive pleadings, which may involve discovery, deposition preparation, investigation, trial and mediation preparation, analysis of factual information, and assistance in the preparation of pleadings, motions, and/or briefs.
- Managing document production databases and case management databases, as well as participating in trials.
- Maintaining a professional demeanor and attitude while complying with firm policies.
- Sustaining attention to detail and quality of work.
- Developing technical proficiency in database use, internet/electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
- Organizing and managing files independently or delegating these tasks to Paralegal Assistants or Information Governance, and supervising them.
- Attending and participating in in-house continuing legal education (CLE) sessions.
- Supervising and mentoring Paralegal Assistants.
- Anticipating the needs of attorneys and handling all key duties independently without supervision from another Paralegal or Senior Paralegal.
- Meeting a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year.
Education and Experience Information:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following education and experience requirements:
- Possess Asbestos/Toxic Tort litigation experience, which is mandatory.
- Hold a Paralegal Certificate or a Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or an Associate’s degree with paralegal training.
- Experience in Mass Tort/Asbestos is required.
- Florida asbestos experience is preferred.
Salary Information:
The compensation for the Paralegal - Responsive Pleadings position varies based on skills, experience, location, and other permissible factors. The expected salary ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of California: $84,000 - $112,000
- State of Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- State of Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- State of Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- State of Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- State of Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- State of New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- State of Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
These salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, which is non-guaranteed and contingent upon individual and firm performance.
