Job Title: Immigration Paralegal I
Job Responsibilities:
An Immigration Paralegal I at the law firm is tasked with collaborating closely with attorneys to prepare, file, and monitor various immigration and nationality law matters. This role demands a deep understanding of the immigration process and proficiency in handling multiple case types while progressively increasing client interaction. The primary responsibilities include:
- Leading email and phone communications with clients under the supervision of a Senior Paralegal or Attorney.
- Guiding assignees on proprietary systems and case processing.
- Enhancing understanding of client communication procedures and requirements.
- Recording client services rendered and coordinating with Accounting for processing.
- Demonstrating complete competence in previously handled case types and continuously advancing knowledge and independence in case management.
- Processing more advanced and diverse corporate immigration cases.
- Evaluating cases, identifying concerns, and proactively escalating them to the appropriate team members at the law firm.
- Preparing forms, letters, documents, and correspondence for attorney review, while adapting tools and resources for casework that deviates from templates.
- Managing the status of all filed applications and petitions and finalizing documents after attorney review.
- Utilizing document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework in accordance with the law firm's policy.
- Preparing internal caseload reports for management.
- Sharing process flow with assignees and identifying problematic cases to discuss strategies and solutions with attorneys.
- Conducting research to obtain information such as company background, industry standards, current wages, processing procedures, and standard processing times.
- Initiating contact with government agencies to obtain necessary information and alerting Senior Paralegals and/or attorneys regarding potential process delays or problems.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires the candidate to thrive in a high-volume environment and demonstrate sound judgment. The candidate should have the ability to execute tasks with minimal supervision and exhibit strong attention to detail to catch and correct errors in their work and the work of others. Superior client service skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively prioritize cases, caseloads, and other assigned tasks, including projects and management responsibilities. The candidate must be able to meet deadlines and goals and should have proficiency in MS Office, scanning, copying, and effectively navigating proprietary software. The typical qualifications include:
- At least 1+ year(s) of . corporate immigration experience.
- A Bachelor’s Degree; 1-year law-related experience under a licensed attorney; or a Paralegal (PL) certificate from an ABA-approved program.
Working Conditions:
The role requires the candidate to be able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods, perform general office administrative activities such as copying, filing, delivering, and using the telephone, and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Regular and on-time attendance is required. The candidate must be able to prioritize, schedule, and complete testing required for multiple applications with overlapping schedules. A degree of creativity and flexibility is necessary, and hours may exceed 40 hours per week. Occasional travel by conventional means, including aircraft and motor vehicle, may be required within the region and to other locations.
