Job Title: Paralegal – Asbestos Affidavit & Exposure Claims (Lung Cancer Department)
Job Responsibilities:
- Review Client Files: The role involves analyzing intake call summaries, employment records, union documents, and medical information to understand each client’s exposure history. This requires a thorough examination of various documents to piece together the client’s background and exposure details.
- Conduct Client Interviews: You will need to speak compassionately and professionally with clients or family members to clarify or expand on exposure details. This task demands excellent communication skills and empathy, as it involves discussing sensitive and sometimes emotional topics.
- Draft Exposure Affidavits: The position requires writing compelling and legally sound asbestos exposure affidavits based on interviews, records, and known occupational exposures. This involves transforming gathered information into clear and persuasive legal documents.
- Tailor for Each Trust: Understanding the variations in affidavit requirements among different asbestos bankruptcy trusts is essential. You will need to draft affidavits accordingly, ensuring compliance with specific trust fund requirements.
- Collaborate with Legal Staff: As an affidavit drafter, you will work closely with attorneys, case managers, and medical records teams to gather information and revise drafts as needed. This collaboration ensures the accuracy and completeness of affidavits.
- Meet Deadlines: The role requires prioritizing and managing multiple affidavits simultaneously. You must maintain accuracy and empathy while meeting tight deadlines.
Education and Experience Information:
- Experience working with lung cancer cases or asbestos-related personal injury claims is strongly preferred. This background is crucial for understanding the complexities of asbestos exposure and its implications.
- Strong writing and research skills are necessary, with the ability to transform technical and personal histories into clear legal documents. This role demands attention to detail and the ability to convey complex information effectively.
- Comfort conducting sensitive, sometimes emotional, interviews with clients and/or their families is required. Empathy and professionalism are essential in handling these interactions.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized individuals are preferred, with the ability to manage multiple cases. Organizational skills are critical for handling the workload efficiently.
- A legal, medical-legal, or claims-based background is a plus. Such experience can provide valuable insights into the intricacies of asbestos-related cases.
- Prior experience with asbestos trust fund work is a major plus. Familiarity with trust fund requirements and processes is beneficial for drafting accurate affidavits.
Salary Information:
- The pay for this full-time position ranges from $57, to $70, per year. The salary is commensurate with experience and reflects the demanding nature of the role.
