Job Responsibilities
The Trademark Paralegal will play a crucial role within the Intellectual Property Department at the law firm. The primary responsibilities include:
- Conducting independent research related to . and foreign trademark prosecution and procedures.
- Conducting screening, design, and ownership searches, and analyzing the results.
- Preparing and filing routine and non-standard/complex . and international trademark applications, including mid-prosecution, TTAB, and maintenance filings.
- Providing database management support, particularly related to trademark portfolio management.
- Engaging in regular communication with domestic and international clients, attorneys, the . Patent and Trademark Office, and foreign counterparts.
- Preparing and filing copyright applications.
- Assisting with the maintenance of domain names and enforcement matters.
- Assisting with assignments and other chain of title work, both domestic and foreign.
Education and Experience Information
To qualify for the Trademark Paralegal position, candidates must meet the following educational and experiential requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A college degree and/or a paralegal certificate from a school approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) is preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience related to trademark prosecution is required.
- Knowledge of United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) rules and regulations and experience with the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) rules and regulations and experience with filing applications for international registration under the Madrid Protocol is preferred.
Salary Information
The salary range for the Trademark Paralegal position varies based on location and other factors such as education, experience, geographic market, and internal pay equity at the law firm. The compensation ranges are as follows:
- Milwaukee, Detroit, Madison & Salt Lake City: $62,100 - $135,800
- San Diego, Denver, Chicago, Dallas & Houston: $82,700 - $149,300
- Los Angeles: $86,300 - $155,700
- Boston, New York & Washington DC: $89,900 - $162,300
- Silicon Valley & San Francisco: $94,100 - $170,000
