Job Title: Associate Director, Paralegal Services

Job Responsibilities:

The Associate Director, Paralegal Services at the law firm is a key firm-wide resource for all practice groups overseeing the paralegal department globally. The individual in this role will collaborate with local Paralegal Managers to manage the hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluation of paralegals, ensuring compliance with ethical and professional standards. This position focuses on optimizing paralegal utilization, managing work distribution, and enhancing overall workload and productivity. The Associate Director is tasked with various administrative duties, including budgeting, scheduling, reporting, and liaising with clients and other departments. This role reports to the Chief Legal Operations Officer to implement the firm’s strategy for its paralegal program and works closely with local Paralegal Managers, Supervisors, and Coordinators.

Key responsibilities include:

- Developing and implementing an engagement plan to educate lawyers and staff on the paralegal program and proper utilization of paralegals.
- Establishing policies and procedures for the paralegal department, including hiring criteria, performance appraisal, quality control, and professional development.
- Providing ongoing training, coaching, mentoring, and feedback to paralegals, and addressing any issues or concerns.
- Evaluating the work of paralegals to ensure they meet the expectations and standards of the firm and clients.
- Analyzing paralegal utilization to support the distribution of work based on skills, experience, and availability.
- Monitoring and tracking paralegals’ progress and productivity.
- Ensuring compliance with rules of professional conduct, ethics, confidentiality, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Collaborating and communicating with attorneys, clients, and other departments to provide necessary support and assistance.
- Managing administrative functions of the paralegal department, such as budgeting, planning, reporting, employee timecard approval, and record-keeping.
- Analyzing trends and changes in the legal industry to anticipate and prepare for future challenges and opportunities.
- Conducting regular meetings with paralegal staff to review case progress, address issues, and update on departmental initiatives.
- Implementing quality control measures and best practices to maintain high standards of work.

Education and Experience:

- An MBA or bachelor’s degree in legal studies, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- At least 8+ years of experience in a paralegal managerial role at an AmLaw 200 firm is required.

Salary Information:

The annual compensation range for the Associate Director, Paralegal Services position is $260,000 to $285,000. The specific salary offered within this range will depend on qualifications and other operational considerations.
