Job Title: Litigation Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
Litigation Paralegals are integral members of the legal team, working closely with attorneys throughout the entire litigation process. Their responsibilities encompass various phases, from the initiation of cases through discovery, trial, and post-trial activities, including appeals. Specific duties include:
- Assisting litigation attorneys in case management, including preparation for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals.
- Drafting legal documents and correspondence, such as summonses, complaints, bills of particulars, discovery demands and responses, and settlement documents.
- Assisting in the drafting, filing, and serving of motions, including affidavits and memoranda of law.
- Filing legal documents with the court, including summonses, complaints, applications for index numbers, requests for judicial intervention, notices of medical malpractice actions, and notes of issue.
- E-filing documents in Federal Court and the New York State Court of Claims.
- Obtaining and maintaining client medical records in an electronic filing system.
- Organizing and maintaining all legal documents in an electronic filing system for attorney review and case preparation.
- Maintaining telephone contact with clients, expert witnesses, and outside vendors.
- Scheduling interviews and meetings.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Litigation Paralegal position should possess:
- A strong knowledge of PC applications, including Windows and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience in litigation.
Salary Information:
The compensation for the Litigation Paralegal role is between $40,000 and $65,000 annually.
