The candidate will lead the Sex Crimes Unit using a survivor-centered, trauma-informed, transparent process, transforming the Unit’s practices, structure, case tracking, and more. Examine the staffing structure and processes of the unit and implement changes in consultation with executive staff. Manage a team of Assistant District Attorney’s handling felony and misdemeanor sexual assaults involving survivors aged fourteen and older. Supervise charging, bail requests, dispositions, and sentences in felony and misdemeanor sexual assaults. Collaborate with agencies and organizations, including the NYPD, to enhance cases at the earliest stages of investigation and prosecution. Develop and refine investigative and trial skills of assigned Assistant District Attorney’s, with a particular focus on the unique skills necessary to effectively investigate and prosecute sex crimes. Coordinate with the Witness Aid Services Unit to ensure that the Office is responsive to survivors’ needs and leveraging all available resources. Conduct outreach to the community to educate and empower survivors and increase public awareness about sexual and gender-based violence. Should have 10+ years of experience as a prosecutor in New York State, with prior prosecutorial experience with Sex Crimes or Gender Based Violence cases. Experience enacting meaningful change is required. Meaningful supervisory experience of senior and junior-level assistants is required.
