Law Firm Seeks Experienced Patent Specialist for Multiple Locations
Kilpatrick Townsend, a leading international law firm, is seeking a Patent Specialist for our Intellectual Property Department in our Seattle, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, or San Diego office. This is a full-time, hybrid position with a multi-faceted health benefits package.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff in providing exceptional service to both internal and external clients. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clients' patent needs, and we value your contribution to our firm's success.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide support for US patent prosecution and patent matters, with a focus on US and PCT filings, deadline management, and special projects
- Collaborate closely with attorneys, patent specialists, paralegals, and clients to ensure high-quality service
- Prepare, review, and file US and PCT patent applications, responses, and issue fees, both electronically and on paper as needed
- Draft correspondence to clients regarding the status of patent applications and patent matters
- Report USPTO and PCT correspondence and notifications, including publications, recordation of assignments, office actions, IDS, Missing Parts, Petitions, Notice of Allowances, and more
- Manage client portfolios, including preparing and maintaining status reports, charts, and various client projects and tasks
- Act as a single point of contact for clients and provide assistance as needed
- Draft, file, and report IDS and IDS reference management for clients
- Utilize contracted resources as appropriate
- Monitor deadlines, communicate and follow up with relevant parties to ensure timely completion of activities
- Review, organize, and file documents and emails in the firm's document management system, iManage, according to firm protocols
- Complete special projects as assigned
- Perform a variety of patent-related administrative support tasks
- Provide client services, including preparing and processing reports, coordinating client meetings, and meeting with client patent paralegals
- Report filings and notifications to clients through the client portal
- Review client proformas and make edits and finalizations for attorneys
- Handle patent prosecution administrative tasks and route to others as needed
- Maintain accurate daily time records for client billing and statistical purposes
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years' experience as a patent prosecution paralegal, legal secretary, or comparable position in a law firm or in-house legal environment
- Experience with electronic filing USPTO procedures
- Excellent knowledge of USPTO and PCT rules and procedures
- Foreign filing experience preferred
- High level of proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, . Patent Office Electronic Filing System, Dialog, and other internet research tools
- Good working knowledge of timekeeping software (InTapp), iManage, FoundationIP, and Claim Master
- Excellent client service skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and take on assignments
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and perform well under pressure
- Respectful of others and able to work well with colleagues and clients
