Pursuant to the Washington . pay transparency laws, BCLP is posting a reasonable estimate of a compensation range for this position. At the time of posting, the estimated Washington . range is $101,440 to $158,500. Actual compensation will be influenced by various factors, including but not limited to the level of relevant experience, skill sets, training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, market data, and other job-related factors permitted by law. The range is based on a full-time work schedule. Additional compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
Summary:
Law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner is seeking a Patent Agent with a background in Mechanical Engineering or related field to join their Washington office. This position involves managing valuable patent assets and assessing patent risk for clients, as well as drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications. The successful candidate will have at least one year of experience in patent prosecution and be registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The estimated salary range for this position is $101,440 to $158,500 with the potential for an annual discretionary bonus.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications on behalf of clients
- Focus on patent filings and responding to rejections from the USPTO and other international patent offices
- Work with clients to procure patent protection and build IP portfolios for innovative technologies
- Establish and maintain internal practices and procedures for managing patent-related information, filings, and deadlines
- Communicate professionally with internal and external clients and work as part of a global professional team
- Demonstrate advanced writing skills and the ability to research and communicate ideas clearly and concisely
- Effectively communicate with lawyers, firm management, staff, and clients one-on-one both verbally and in writing
- Think creatively and use good judgment and decision-making capabilities
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of one year of experience in patent prosecution
- Industry experience in lithium ion battery/module/pack or mechanical engineering design/manufacturing preferred
- Registered with the USPTO
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may serve as a coach for other positions.
Travel:
Minimal travel is required for this role.
Education/Experience/Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of one year of experience in patent prosecution
