Job Title: Senior Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Senior Counsel position is to provide comprehensive legal advice, counseling, and support concerning employment, labor, and benefits law to Human Resources and business leaders within the company and its affiliated entities in the United States. The Senior Counsel will operate in a dynamic legal environment, addressing complex legal issues and delivering practical, strategic, business-focused advice. The role involves managing litigation and other disputes, monitoring and advising businesses on relevant legal developments, delivering presentations and training, managing special projects, and serving on cross-functional teams. The position requires close collaboration with Human Resources professionals and regular interaction with leaders in other functional areas, including Communications, Store and Supply Chain Operations, Government Affairs, IT, Asset Protection, and Pharmacy.
Key duties include:
- Providing legal advice on a wide range of employment law issues, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, discipline, termination, internal investigations, wage and hour compliance, disability-related accommodations, leaves of absence, diversity and inclusion initiatives, pay equity, non-competition and solicitation, organizational restructuring, and acquisitions.
- Supporting collective bargaining and labor contract drafting, administration, and interpretation.
- Advising on employee benefits matters, including incentive plans, welfare plans, retirement plans, benefits documentation, and claims.
- Drafting and providing advice on various employee-facing policies, forms, agreements, communications, and systems.
- Managing responses to and resolution of wage and hour, I-9, and other government audits.
- Advising HR and management on handling internal employee complaints and grievances.
- Managing and negotiating the resolution of attorney-represented claims.
- Actively managing outside counsel in defending litigation, labor arbitrations, and government agency charges.
- Driving and participating in all aspects of mediation proceedings.
- Proactively monitoring relevant legal developments, regulatory, industry, and business trends, and employment-related topics.
- Promoting communication and awareness of legal developments, compliance issues, and best practices.
- Conducting training on employment and labor law matters.
- Drafting and continually updating training materials and processes.
- Providing input on proposed legislation, potential impacts on business, and implementation issues.
- Managing special projects and serving on cross-functional teams.
- Advising on and participating in internal audits.
- Contributing to regular functional and corporate reporting.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (.) degree
- State bar license
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience practicing law

Salary Information:
The salary range varies by location as follows:
- ME/NC/PA/SC: $120,960 - $181,440
- IL/MA/MD: $139,120 - $208,680
