Job Title: Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal in the Trust & Estates department is responsible for managing all elements of the estate and trust administration process. Key duties include:
- Securing documents related to the client’s estate.
- Assisting in valuing the assets within the estate.
- Preparing documents and aiding with creating and transferring assets into trusts to facilitate the probate process.
- Preparing and filing probate documents required for estate administration, including petitions, motions, testamentary letters, inventories, accountings, and notices.
- Filing life insurance claims and other death benefits.
- Contacting beneficiaries and next of kin regarding the admission of the will and other probate hearings.
- Administering estate accounts and assisting with the liquidation and transfer of property.
- Preparing income tax returns for estates or trusts, including fiduciary income tax planning.
- Preparing federal and/or NY estate tax returns.
- Participating in the administration of guardianships and trusts.
- Assisting with name changes and adoption proceedings.
- Preparing estate documents for attorney review, including wills, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and living wills.
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- An Associate degree in paralegal studies or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent initiative, follow-through, and work ethic.
- Exceptional grammar, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and maintain composure during high-volume periods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- 1-3 years of experience in trust and estates administration as a paralegal.
- Proficiency in estate planning and probate document drafting software.
Salary Information:
The compensation for this Paralegal position is estimated to be between $25-35 per hour. This range represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, skill set, and office location.
