Burr & Forman LLP is seeking a Legal Practice Assistant to join our team in Birmingham, AL. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative and highly respected law firm. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience as a legal secretary or assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department, with a strong understanding of legal terminology and processes.

Responsibilities include performing complex administrative duties, preparing and proofreading legal documents, filing documents in court, maintaining calendars and deadlines, and coordinating logistics for meetings and travel. The successful candidate will also have strong communication skills, be highly organized and detail-oriented, and have a desire to take ownership as a contributing member of the team. Some overtime may be required.

Key Contributions:

- Perform complex administrative duties with knowledge of legal terminology and processes
- Prepare, edit, and proofread legal documents
- File documents in court
- Schedule and coordinate logistics for meetings and travel
- Maintain calendars and deadlines
- Enter billable time and process expense reimbursements
- Answer incoming calls and respond to inquiries
- Prepare documents for shipment and distribute mail
- Open and maintain client files and organizational documents
- Other responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

- At least two years of experience as a legal secretary/assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department environment; experience in wills, estates, trusts, and probate preferred
- Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and ability to type 50 wpm
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Proactive with a desire to take ownership as a contributing member of the team
- Able to balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Some overtime may be required

- Salary range: $40,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
