The law firm of Shumaker is seeking a highly motivated Real Estate Paralegal/Legal Administrative Assistant to join our team in Charleston, South Carolina. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to work with a dynamic and community-focused firm.
Responsibilities:
Draft and prepare real estate documents for closings, including purchase and sale agreements, deeds, mortgages, and easements
Review contracts and prepare closing checklists
Coordinate due diligence requirements for clients
Communicate with various parties involved in real estate transactions, including title companies, survey firms, and government offices
Conduct public record searches and review and summarize title commitments, lien search reports, and environmental reports
Attend and assist with closings
Prepare closing statements and binders
Review and prepare leases and assist with loan document review
Keep clients, agents, and lenders informed of transaction status
Disburse funds and reconcile invoices
Process and record mortgage satisfactions
Prepare corporate filings and resolutions
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
3-5 years of experience with real estate law
Strong understanding of real estate terms and technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Qualia
Excellent research skills, including the use of online services and databases
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
Qualifications:
Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program preferred, but not required
Familiarity with state and local recording and filing processes
Knowledge of corporate filings and resolutions
High level of client contact and service orientation
