It would be a good idea to hire on some more people to spread out the workload just a tiny bit.

Every day here you will have a new exciting challenge to tackle along with learning new skills to add to your work set.

It is easy to become overwhelmed with how fast things move here. You can expect to have problems if you slow down at all.

You can make the most of this opportunity, but you may have to calibrate your expectations. Be prepared to sacrifice your personal interests for your career starting from day one.

Your reputation is everything in this business. At Snell & Wilmer, you can hone your reputation and do some good for the community. You can build a solid practice and make a great impression on your peers at the same time.

There are not many negatives, except that you should be prepared to work long hours and set aside personal interests for the firm. You will need to put the firm at the forefront of everything you do, which means a very limited life outside the job.

Snell & Wilmer traces its origins to 1938, when Mark Wilmer joined Frank L. Snell, Jr., Riney Salmon, and Charles Strouss, who had practiced together since 1934. Snell & Wilmer traces its origins to 1938, when Mark Wilmer joined Frank L. Snell, Jr., Riney Salmon, and Charles Strouss, who had practiced together since 1934. Mr. Snell frequently recounted the search that led to his partnership with Mr. Wilmer. Because Mr. Snell was "snowed under" by work and needed help, he consulted the three members of Maricopa County's Superior Court to identify the best trial lawyer in the state. Mr. Snell noted that each judge mentioned Mr. Wilmer, whom he had not yet met. Both Mr. Snell and Mr. Wilmer recalled their first conversation as a lengthy discussion about their philosophies of the practice of law. The conversation went so well that the two attorneys decided to become partners without working out financial terms. We have been "doing business in Arizona" ever since.

Practice Areas

Snell & Wilmer LLP practices law in the following areas and works with its clients to provide the best possible legal solutions.

Hiring Criteria

Snell & Wilmer LLP follows the set of hiring criteria outlined below.

Snell & Wilmer seeks to hire diverse individuals with the long-term potential to become partners at the firm. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated high academic achievement, initiative and involvement in non-academic experiences or extra-curricular activities who possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Pro bono

Snell & Wilmer attorneys also consider pro bono activities to be an important professional responsibility. Snell & Wilmer strongly encourages all attorneys and paralegals to commit at least 50 hours per year to some type of pro bono activity. Snell & Wilmer recognizes that efforts devoted to pro bono legal services, and the cause in question, may vary greatly from attorney to attorney. The time spent on approved pro bono work is credited toward each attorney's or each paralegal's annual performance goals and, therefore, it is considered, along with time devoted to client matters, for purposes of evaluation and compensation.

Diversity Write a review

The Committee then adopted the firm's values statement to succinctly convey that diversity and inclusion are intertwined with life and business at Snell & Wilmer. All together, the firm as a whole sends a powerful message: diversity and inclusion are not end products but rather continuums pursued with the same urgency, sincerity, and eye on sustainability as any other strategic initiative.

Summer associate program

At the mid-point and end of the summer, the coordinators meet with each summer associate to discuss his/her progress. In addition, each attorney for whom the summer associate works provides an oral and written evaluation. To the greatest extent possible, summer associates are urged to attend client conferences, depositions, negotiations, closings of various commercial transactions, administrative and court hearings, and trials in which the firm is involved.

We are constantly working to make our summer associate program even better and more beneficial to participants. We recently introduced "Reality Snell & Wilmer" to provide a new and different type of learning experience. In addition to projects, summer associates are matched with a partner who brings them into other cases and transactions, as needed, to simulate the reality of working as an attorney day to day.

Our comprehensive interview process for the summer associate program involves spending a lot of time up front to target the individuals whom we believe will join the firm.

Richard Sloan, one of the founding members of what is now Fennemore Craig, P.C., in his book, Memories of an Arizona Judge, recalls his arrival in Phoenix in 1884, "the train slowed down, and the brakeman stuck his head in the car door and shouted, 'Maricopa- all out for Phoenix!' I stepped from the train, somewhat surprised that I was the only passenger to do so." As Mr. Sloan stood alone on that train platform in 1884, only 5,500 people lived in Phoenix and the city covered one and a half s...
