Job Title: Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Chief Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Chief Clerk role within the organization encompasses several critical responsibilities aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of the Clerk’s Office. The primary duties include:

- Mastering, developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with the office’s standards and protocols.
- Overseeing the prompt intake and processing of cases, ensuring timely dissemination of decisions and other post-adjudication correspondence.
- Maintaining procedures, including databases or other systems, to effectively manage productivity, timeliness, and staffing needs.
- Establishing effective working relationships and cooperative interaction with legal support personnel.
- Acting as a liaison to the Adjudication Division and establishing cooperative communication.
- Interpreting rules and agency standards and policies to staff and respondents, when necessary.
- Conducting periodic assessments of units to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness of policies.
- Performing special assignments and projects, including oral and/or written presentations.
- Working proactively and independently to solve difficult issues that may arise.
- Overseeing daily operations of clerical and administrative functions across the five boroughs, including revenue, post-hearing unit, correspondence, call center, intake, and case calendaring.
- Traveling to the Hearings Division’s five borough offices as needed.

Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Chief Clerk, candidates must meet the following educational and experience requirements:

- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- A minimum of four years of recent full-time, responsible, relevant, and satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar. Within these four years, at least eighteen months must have been spent in the supervision of other attorneys in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
- Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing throughout their employment duration.

Preferred skills for candidates include:
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent writing, legal research, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational skills and a process-oriented, problem-solving mindset.
- Demonstrated experience in managing, supervising, mentoring, and training staff at different levels.
- Project management skills.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and case management applications.
- High capacity to learn and use a variety of computer-based information systems.
- Knowledge of New York City government, administration, human resources, and/or collective bargaining.
- A history of volunteerism, such as service in AmeriCorps or Peace Corps, is viewed favorably.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Chief Clerk position is $165, to $175,.
