Job Title: Legal Assistant

Job Responsibilities:
The primary role of the Legal Assistant is to provide support to attorneys in the State Public Defender’s Office as they deliver holistic representation to clients involved in criminal, juvenile, or child protection cases. This non-classified position reports to either the Management Assistant or Lead Attorney. Key responsibilities include:

- Assisting with document review, preparation, and processing of discovery materials.
- Generating legal documents such as motions, memoranda, and pleadings using the case management system (CMS).
- Providing document management support for meetings, hearings, and trials.
- Entering and reviewing data in the CMS in accordance with guidelines.
- Assisting with trial exhibit preparation.
- Communicating with clients and court personnel.
- Filing documents electronically.
- Tracking personal time and tasks in the CMS.
- Supporting attorneys with administrative tasks and projects as necessary.
- Maintaining confidentiality of client information and adhering to ethical standards.
- Organizing electronic case files in the CMS.
- Answering phones, sending emails, and greeting clients in the office.
- Demonstrating high proficiency with CMS, legal, and administrative software and platforms.
- Calendaring events, deadlines, and scheduling appointments.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Legal Assistant position should possess the following qualifications:

- One to five (1-5) years of experience in the legal field related to the job responsibilities mentioned above, OR one to five (1-5) years of experience performing standard administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence or reports, filing, entering data, receiving payments, and/or maintaining logs. This experience should include regular, proficient use of electronic management information systems and word processing and other standard business software applications.
- An Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field can substitute for the experience requirement.
- Exceptional administrative skills, including organization, time management, and attention to detail.
- Excellent grammar and proofreading skills.
- Clear and professional communication skills.

Salary Information:
The Legal Assistant position offers a full-time salary ranging from $52,000 to $73,000 annually, depending on experience (.). Additionally, the position is paid on an hourly basis, with a minimum salary of and a maximum salary of per hour.
