Job Title: Sr. Data Scientist
Job Responsibilities
The Senior Data Scientist at the law firm's Information Technology department is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the firm's strategy, legal service delivery, and operations through data science tools and techniques. The responsibilities include:
- Collaborating closely with the Director of Data Science Analytics to guide the data science function, encompassing strategy, management, and operations.
- Developing, maintaining, and leveraging the firm's data, data integrations, and data science tools to generate business insights and support project initiatives.
- Building, maintaining, and enhancing the firm's information resources to meet current and future needs, including supporting the firm's master data model and data storage infrastructure.
- Coordinating with the firm's Information Governance and Security teams to ensure data validity, use, privacy, and security.
- Working with the firm's technology teams to identify, implement, and maintain relevant technologies and data artifacts such as warehouses and databases.
- Developing predictive/explanatory models, exploratory data applications, and rapid prototypes for various use cases and functions, such as matter management, knowledge management, HR, finance/billing, and business development. This includes presenting results to key stakeholders and transitioning to production applications where appropriate.
Education and Experience Information
- A relevant master's degree in a related field, such as computer science or information management, is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience applying data science in one or more industries, with a proven track record of successful outcomes.
- Proficiency in data management tools and methods, including fluency in Python, R, and T-SQL.
- Experience with Azure Cognitive Services, AWS, Tableau, Power BI, and Posit Workbench / Posit Connect is considered a plus.
- Technical experience in conceiving, building, and launching decision support tools is helpful.
- Experience with machine learning and AI, with a reputation as a thought leader in the data science/machine learning/Artificial Intelligence community, is advantageous.
- Experience working in the legal profession, with a strong peer and vendor network.

- Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including the ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data.
- A highly proactive, solution-oriented approach to work and interactions.
Salary Information
The salary ranges for the Senior Data Scientist position vary based on location and are as follows:
- New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto: $140,000 to $195,000
- Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Washington, .: $133,000 to $186,000
- Denver: $125,000 to $174,000
Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO). The range provided is specifically for positions performed in the listed cities/states and may vary based on factors such as local market data and ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications.
