Job Title: Senior Legal Assistant - Civil Rights Unit
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Legal Assistant in the Civil Rights Unit is responsible for supporting attorneys by performing both legal work and clerical duties. Key responsibilities include:
- Administrative Duties:
- Collaborate with legal assistants and attorneys to organize discovery and discovery processes.
- Lead discovery collection and organization for complex litigation cases, including e-discovery.
- Create case charts to track stages of division cases and anticipate future cases.
- Draft and issue litigation holds to various governmental entities.
- Draft and issue subpoenas as needed and work with division attorneys to collect and process data received in response.
- Gather relevant documents/materials from City and outside agencies for litigation files, such as criminal hearing transcripts and records from various departments.
- Assist in preparing witnesses for hearings and requesting discovery.
- Coordinate the appearance of court reporters and technology providers.
- Prepare court notices, subpoenas for witnesses, and trial exhibits.
- Schedule Independent Medical/Psychological Examinations and depositions.
- Interview City employees and witnesses as part of investigations.
- Follow up on action items.
- Clerical Work:
- Set up all new case files.
- Copy, scan, fax, and hand-deliver documents.
- Redact sensitive information from discoverable documents.
- Preserve electronic copies of documents.
- Miscellaneous:
- Perform duties as the Chief requires.
- Assist attorneys with the logistics of case management, document preparation, and trial.

Education and Experience Information:
The preferred candidate will possess an Associate’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent and have experience in a legal setting.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Senior Legal Assistant position is $59,834 to $74,488, commensurate with education and experience.

- Successful candidates must be residents of Philadelphia within six months of hire.
