Job Title: Assistant Attorney General - 2025 Honors Program
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) positions in the Honors Program involve a diverse and dynamic range of responsibilities. While each position is unique, typical duties include:
- Researching legal issues to provide informed and accurate legal advice.
- Consulting with clients and offering option-based advice as needed.
- Developing litigation strategies tailored to the needs of each case.
- Identifying and preparing witnesses and exhibits for legal proceedings.
- Crafting necessary pleadings and briefs for cases.
- Litigating cases before administrative entities or various levels of state and federal court.
- Collaborating directly and effectively with professional staff to support litigation needs.
- Contributing positively to the supportive, inclusive, and collegial community within the Attorney General's Office (AGO).
Education and Experience Information:
To be eligible for the Honors Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be a third-year law student attending a school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) or a judicial clerk of an appellate or federal court who received a Juris Doctor (JD) from a law school accredited by the ABA.
- The following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Superior verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex information clearly and concisely.
- An interest in litigation and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to manage one's caseload.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork and professionalism when working with diverse backgrounds.
- A demonstrated commitment to public service and an interest in the work of the AGO.
- A diverse background in education, experience, and perspective.
- Self-motivation to learn new areas of law and develop new skills.
- Flexibility in divisional and geographic preferences that align with the Honors Program’s timing and placement process.
Salary Information:
Assistant Attorney General (AAG) salaries are set between $76,752 and $149,508 annually. The exact amount is determined in accordance with Appendix B of the Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General Collective Bargaining Agreement (AWAAG CBA). Positions located in King County are eligible to receive an additional 5% King County Assignment Pay.
