Job Summary:
- Seeking a highly qualified and diverse staff to serve the Bronx County community and promote fair justice.
- Looking for an experienced attorney (7+ years) to serve as Director for the Rikers Island Sex Crimes Prosecution Initiative (RISCPI).
- Reporting to the Rikers Island Prosecution Bureau Chief, the Investigations Division Chief, and the Deputy Division Chief.
- Responsible for leading, overseeing, and supervising a team of Assistant District Attorneys, investigators, and professional staff members in the investigation and prosecution of sexual offenses on Rikers Island.
- Will also lead and oversee RISCPI's efforts to enhance criminal investigations and combat sexual offenses through education and training.
- Collaborates with law enforcement agencies and organizations such as the New York City Department of Correction and Investigations.
- Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee, supervise, and direct all investigations and prosecutions conducted by RISCPI.
- Motivate, organize, and direct RISCPI staff at the main office and satellite office on Rikers Island.
- Maintain statistics on investigations and cases within RIPB.
- Stay updated on investigative methods and relevant laws.
- Participate in meetings and conferences with law enforcement agencies.
- Train staff on relevant federal and state laws for criminal procedure and penal law.
- Conduct and/or participate in SORA hearings throughout the Investigations Division.
- Advise and assist legal and non-legal staff.
- Conduct in-depth case reviews and conferences.
- Implement office policies.
- Maintain strong relationships with law enforcement agencies.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Education and Experience/Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree required.
- 7+ years of experience, including 12 months in a managerial role.
- In-depth knowledge of the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
- Active and Good Standing in the New York State Bar.
- US Citizenship and New York State Residency required.
- Significant experience in criminal investigations and prosecutions.
- Significant grand jury and trial experience.
- Experience managing complex investigations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong business planning and forecasting skills.
- Excellent legal writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong presentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.
- Excellent people skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of NYS courts and the criminal justice system.
