Job Title: Investigative Analyst

Job Responsibilities:
The Investigative Analyst position within the Hate Crimes department involves a variety of duties aimed at supporting the prosecution of hate crime cases. The key responsibilities include assisting Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) in developing long-term investigations into bias-motivated criminal activities. The analyst is responsible for creating visual aids such as PowerPoints, graphs, diagrams, spreadsheets, charts, maps, and video compilations for use in investigations, grand jury proceedings, and trial presentations related to hate crime cases.

The role also requires the analyst to testify in grand jury proceedings, hearings, and trials to explain analytical processes and respond to cross-examination. Collecting and analyzing data relevant to hate crime investigations is a crucial part of the job, involving the examination of surveillance videos, body-worn camera statements, cell phone data, phone records, social media records, jail calls, out-of-state records, 61 reports, and bank records.

Collaboration with the High Technology Analysis Unit is necessary to assist ADAs in interpreting forensic reports. The analyst also aids in collecting and processing discovery for complex hate crime cases and assists in witness interviews. Maintaining databases, filing, and records management systems is part of the responsibilities, along with participating in professional development trainings and staying updated on news related to bias and hate crimes.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Investigative Analyst position must meet certain educational and experience criteria. There are three levels of qualification:

- Level 1 requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and one year of experience as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
- Level 2 requires a Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience.
- Level 3 requires a Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience.

A Master’s degree can be substituted for years of experience.

Preferred qualifications include two to four years of experience as a paralegal or equivalent in the criminal justice field, prior experience with law enforcement or investigative agencies, and strong organizational, communication, time management, writing, and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and data accuracy is crucial, along with proficiency in computer applications like PowerPoint and Excel. Knowledge of AJIS, Clear, Bloomberg, and other CityNet systems is beneficial, as is proficiency in Internet search strategies.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Investigative Analyst position is between $55, and $58,.

Additional Information:
The position requires a 35-hour workweek, with hours from 9 am to 5 pm, and must be performed in person. Current office employees seeking transfer or promotion must have served at least one year in their current department and be in good standing, while also meeting the minimum and additional qualifications for the position. Authorization to work in the United States is required. City residency is not required for this position.
