Job Title: Paralegal – Civil Litigation
Job Responsibilities:
As a Paralegal at the law firm in Parsippany, NJ, you will be expected to fulfill a variety of duties essential for supporting the civil litigation defense team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ordering, following up on, and tracking medical records to ensure all necessary documentation is obtained for cases.
- Scheduling Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) as part of the legal process.
- Conducting docket searches to keep track of case progress and updates.
- Retaining experts and sending relevant documents for their review to build a strong case.
- Gathering medical records and other discovery materials through services, authorizations, and social media, among other sources.
- Tracking, organizing, and preparing discovery materials to be sent to counsel, experts, and other witnesses, ensuring all parties have the necessary information.
- Assisting attorneys with trial preparation, which may involve organizing documents, preparing exhibits, and coordinating with witnesses.
- Having asbestos experience is considered a plus, as it may be relevant to some of the cases handled by the firm.
- Organizing and maintaining files within the document management system to ensure easy access and retrieval of information.
- Performing other general office administration functions as needed to support the team.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate for the Paralegal position should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal, particularly in litigation, is essential.
- Demonstrated creative thinking, strong research skills, and superior verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong research skills, especially with programs such as Lexis Nexis, are required.
- Significant experience in obtaining medical records and preparing medical chronologies is preferred.
- Experience working with attorneys defending matters of asbestos and other areas of civil defense is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience following the legal process in preparation in New Jersey is essential.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- A proactive work style, taking initiative to anticipate attorney needs, is valued.
