Estates Administration Paralegal Duties: Prepare Pennsylvania inheritance tax and US Federal estate tax returns for resident and non-resident decedents. Draft estate accounting and family settlement agreements. Prepare probate and administration documents for formal and informal proceedings. Prepare required documents in connection with the distribution of general and specific bequests, interim and residuary distributions, and funding of testamentary trusts. Create, modify and maintain all internal forms. Navigate through estate management software and tools. Collect, analyze, and organize the decedent's financial records, including tax returns, intervivos trust agreements, gift tax returns, and financial statements. Value the decedent's assets at the date of death and the applicable alternate valuation date(s) and determine liabilities of the estate. Prepare Executor's deeds. Resolve client problems or disputes in a professional manner. Respond to clients with written and verbal correspondence. Establish close rapport with clients and beneficiaries to ensure a positive and cooperative working relationship during the course of the estate administration. Compile materials required in connection with an audit of estate and/or inheritance tax returns. Prepare and file Accountings and related settlement documents. Assist attorneys, as needed, in connection with drafting wills deeds, trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives, and other estate planning documents and estate litigation documents. Draft Orphans Court petitions, decrees, and forms required for guardianships and estate administration. Special projects and duties, as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred; paralegal certificate preferred. Should preferably have 5+ years of experience in trusts and estates or similar experience preferred. Previous experience with a variety of tax programs, including programs for the preparation of estate and inheritance tax returns and securities evaluations. Experience with tracking billable time. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). Experience with Lackner software preferred. Familiarity and experience with general office equipment (copy machines, fax, computers, phones). Above average computational, administrative and technical skills. Strong research and report-generating skills. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Highly developed time management, organizational, and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask. Ability to problem solve and maintain good judgment and strict confidentiality. Ability to accept ownership of projects and successfully drive the project tasks on a daily basis.
