Job Title: Trusts and Estates Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Trusts and Estates Paralegal is responsible for supporting partners in all facets of trust and estate administration, encompassing probate proceedings. Key duties include drafting and preparing a variety of legal documents such as estate planning documents, petitions, accountings, and other necessary court filings. The candidate will assist partners with calculations and Excel spreadsheet preparation for advanced planning needs, and attend initial administration meetings with partners and clients. The role involves managing case files, organizing and maintaining documents, and ensuring all deadlines are met. Communication with clients, beneficiaries, and other involved parties is essential, as is gathering and analyzing financial information, including asset valuation and tax-related documents. The paralegal will aid in the preparation of Federal Estate Tax Returns (Form 706) and other IRS filings, coordinate with courts, financial institutions, and other professionals, conduct legal research, and stay updated on changes in trust and estates law and local rules. Other responsibilities include editing and proofreading documents for accuracy and completeness, transmitting documents for signature or e-signature, filing petitions and other documents with the court in compliance with electronic filing requirements, communicating and obtaining information from internal team members and external clients, maintaining and updating attorney mailing lists and client trackers, and maintaining confidentiality of client and firm matters. The paralegal also supports partners and clients by reviewing, verifying, and routing correspondence, reports, and legal documents.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in Trusts and Estates as a paralegal. Candidates must possess a Paralegal Certificate or meet the Business and Professions Code Qualification. A comprehensive understanding of the California Probate Code and trust administration procedures is essential. Experience with estate tax return preparation is highly desirable. The candidate should possess strong drafting, writing, and communication skills with a high attention to detail. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Pro is required, along with experience with legal practice management software, document management systems, and electronic filing service providers. The ability to manage multiple complex matters from start to finish, anticipate needs, and proactively manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment is critical. Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills are necessary, along with professional integrity, accountability, and the ability to work independently. The candidate must be able to work effectively with clients, attorneys, and other team members.
Salary Information:
The compensation for this full-time position ranges from $80,000 to $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
