Job Title: Child Support Officer III
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed investigations to locate absent parents.
- Assist in establishing paternity for children born out-of-wedlock.
- Obtain court orders for financial support and health care coverage for children.
- Enforce child support orders and initiate case closure when necessary.
- Conduct in-office investigations to locate parties, verify employment, and determine assets.
- Prepare documents for legal and administrative actions to establish or enforce child support orders.
- Negotiate lump sum payments from noncustodial parents who owe past due child/medical support.
- Negotiate out-of-court settlements and agreements with parties.
- Monitor child support cases and refer delinquent cases for appropriate enforcement actions.
- Document all case actions using agency tools such as the Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES).
- Review and maintain child support virtual files for accuracy in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) repository.
- Attend court to assist legal staff as needed.
- Research case information on the computer including TXCSES.
- Maintain current knowledge of child support policies and procedures, Texas Family Law, federal regulations, and other states’ IV-D regulations.
- Explain Child Support Program policies, procedures, and regulations to customers.
- Respond to customer inquiries and resolve complaints concerning case status.
- Assess the validity of complaints against the IV-D program impartially.
- Serve as a Notary Public.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Education and Experience Information:
- Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in fields such as full-time Child Support Program, credit collections, investigations, legal assistant, legal secretary, customer service, or IV-A eligibility specialist.
- Knowledge of investigative practices and techniques.
- Skill in interviewing, negotiating, using a personal computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval, and basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment and provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to arrange personal transportation for business-related travel and work more than 40 hours as needed.
- Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 15%.
- Ability to type 35 words per minute (Typing test required at time of interview).
- Preferred Knowledge: Investigative practices and techniques.
- Other Language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish.
Salary Information:
- Salary (Pay Basis): 4, - 4, (Monthly).
This position is open only to current OAG employees. It is a full-time role with standard hours of 40 per week, classified as non-exempt under overtime status. The position is available at the organization within the department, dedicated to promoting responsible parenting and ensuring that children in Texas receive necessary support.
