About the Position
As an ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER, you will be responsible for representing clients in criminal cases, including misdemeanors and felonies. You will work under the supervision of the Public Defender and will have the opportunity to handle a variety of cases and gain valuable experience in the courtroom. The position requires a candidate who is a member in good standing with The Florida Bar and holds a valid license.
Salary and Benefits
We offer a starting salary of $65,000 for Assistant Public Defenders, with the potential for increases based on length of service. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
- Employer health insurance contribution of $21,613 (with employee responsibility of only for individual coverage)
- Employer retirement contribution of $20,520
- $25,000 life insurance policy
- 13 days of annual leave, with increases based on length of service
- 13 days of sick leave per year
- 13 paid holidays per year
- Short-term disability insurance paid by the State of Florida
- State retirement benefits, with vesting after 8 years in the pension plan or 1 year in the investment plan
- Optional employee-paid supplement insurance plans, including vision, dental, cancer, hospitalization, and disability
- Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) for pension plan members, allowing for a lump sum payment of accumulated benefits over a period of up to five years
- Deferred compensation option for saving a portion of monthly salary in a tax-sheltered account
